Steampunk, with its old ideas and technological incorporations might be something of an old idea. However, it can be set in the future. The technology that steampunk talks about is one-of-a-kind and can be futuristic as well, the element of uniqueness is a major part of steampunk.

There are two sides of this as well; setting steampunk in the future would come off as a weird combination imagining a world with steam-run machines in today’s day and age.

However, to set your steampunk story in the future, information gathering is key – noticing all the technological advances incorporating the Victorian era.

Therefore, to think the answer is yes, but it will not be easy. Steampunk to be set in the future would need to be done precisely looking at steam-run machineries.
